One of the things I wanted to do with this site, was to help raise awareness of independent writers and publishers. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting several highly talented people over the past few years, who have written wonderful pieces and work hard to make their sales.
In one of my searches, I came across a distribution center that’s been working with independent publishers for more than 50 years. But what impressed me was that they still worked with, and for, underrepresented artists.
Small Press Distribution is the nation’s only non-profit literary distribution center. They work hard to get books published in smaller presses, into the hands of readers around the world.
In 1969, Bay Area booksellers Peter Howard and Jack Shoemaker started the project with just 8 small presses under their wing. Today, SPD works with over 400 independent publishers.
There are hundreds of titles listed on the site. You can either choose from your favorite genres or by topic of study. They also offer specials deals on their homepage. Be sure to check out their On Sale page for site wide deals on all your favorite books.
One thing to keep in mind is that these are NOT digital books, but good ole’ fashioned hold-in-your-hands, crack-the-spine, smell-the-pages, books.
If you’re looking for something new to read, I highly recommend you check out Small Press Distribution. They have a little something for everyone. If you’re a small publishing house and would like information on becoming an SPD publisher, check out their resource page.
Find something great to read today and help independent artists continue their work.
